Pierluisi ended the requirement for mask use both outdoors and indoors as the number of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations decrease on the island.
Si vas a viajar a Puerto Rico, a partir del jueves, no necesitarás mostrar evidencia de vacunación, ni una prueba negativa, ni tendrás que llenar una declaración de viajero.
These are some of the measures of the new executive order Governor Pedro Pierluisi announced on Monday.
Pierluisi also said he is ending a requirement for mask use outdoors and indoors as the number of cases and hospitalizations wane. The island has a 4% positivity rate, a significant drop from the nearly 40% reported during the holiday season.
Certain areas, such as nursing homes, health facilities, and classrooms will still require masks.
The capacity restrictions were also lifted at public and private businesses. Proof of vaccination to enter restaurants, bars or chinchorros will no longer be required.
Pierluisi said that vaccination requirements for people including public school students, restaurant employees, and health workers will be lifted too.
The local Health Department will be in charge of issuing the protocol for any mass event with more than 1,000 people carried out in theaters, amphitheaters, stadiums, coliseums, and convention centers, whether indoors or outdoors.
Pierluisi said more than 95% of people on the island have received a first vaccine dose, 86% a second dose, and more than 50% a booster shot.
The island has reported more than 267,000 confirmed coronavirus cases and more than 4,000 deaths from COVID-19.
From now on the Health Department will be in charge of the recommendations.
