Despite Gov. Ron DeSantis’ promise to expand abortion restrictions, most Floridians oppose a ban.

The majority of Floridians oppose the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and support the recently signed gun safety bill, according to a new poll conducted by the University of South Florida and Florida International University.

According to the survey, 57% of Floridians oppose the Supreme Court decision. Opinions on what should be the next measures regarding abortion are more divided, but at the federal level, they disagree with overturning Roe v. Wade.

Only 9% of Floridians said they want a complete abortion ban, while 21% said they want a ban with exceptions for pregnancies caused by rape or incest, or when the mother’s life is at risk.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has already promised to “expand pro-life protections.”

The poll also revealed that 59% of Floridians support the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act that President Joe Biden recently signed.

Floridians have been vocal in urging lawmakers to create laws that further restrict access to guns, as the state has had two deadly mass shootings in recent years. One was in 2106 at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, where 49 people were killed. The other was two years later at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, where 17 people were killed.

In fact, the March for Our Lives movement, which is now national, was founded in Florida by one of the surviving students of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting

For years, Florida’s Democrat lawmakers have pushed laws to restrict access to guns, but Republican officials have opposed them.
