Every evening hundreds of people (and lucky dogs!) gather in Mallory Square to watch the sun dip into the Gulf of Mexico. Nikki Beach, Miami

For the more sophisticated pooch, Miami’s Nikki Beach is the place to see and be seen. Your pup will love the ambiance of this swanky beach club with a private outdoor area and a large selection of dog-friendly tables on the sand. There’s also good news for the health conscious pet parent: many of the dishes on the menu are marked as gluten free or vegetarian. But whatever you decide to nosh on, Fido will love the fresh sea breeze and the relaxed atmosphere of this South Beach landmark.

“You had me at gardens!,” says your four-legged friend at the prospect of spending a fun  afternoon at this popular, dog-friendly National Historic Landmark that has been voted Florida’s Best Garden.

Fido must remain on a leash and stay on paths and lawns only, but with its unique Singing Tower carillon and acres of ferns, palms, oaks, and pines, and the spectacular seasonal color of azaleas, camellias, and magnolias, the Gardens can be a peaceful, relaxing escape for you and your pup.

The good news for pet parents: well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome aboard the Victory III.  Open seasonally.

A pet-friendly weekly market for produce, baked goods, craft items and live entertainment? You read that right! The market is so pup friendly, in fact, that several vendors sell dog clothing for the elegant or casual pup, as well as organic doggie treats. Throughout the place you will find dog water stations. There is even a pet adoption booth, in case you’d like a companion for your furry friend. Check the calendar for events like Dogtoberfest in the fall and other pet-friendly festivals. The market is held every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 715 Riverside, Jacksonville.

Dinosaur World, Plant City

Featuring over 150 life size dinosaurs in an outdoor museum, this dog-friendly attraction will delight the whole family as they stroll along the dinosaur walk, cross into Deinonychus Island to see the raptors, or enter Carnivore Boardwalk to stand in awe in  the presence of some amazing creatures of years past. Children can participate in a fossil dig, have fun in the Dino-themed playground, and take in the entertaining interactive exhibits. The whole family can also enjoy a meal in the picnic area (and yes, you can bring your own snacks and drinks). Friendly dogs on leashes are permitted throughout the park (with the exception of the museum building).

The Blackwater River is the only pristine sand river left in the United States. For this reason, the State of Florida designated it a State Forest. And this beautiful spot welcomes Spot (or Fido)! So if your pup enjoys outdoor adventures, he or she will love to explore the water from a dog-friendly canoe or kayak (for an additional fee). Towards the end of your trip, you will encounter the Blackwater State Park with its large pavilions, restrooms, and outdoor showers.

Tarkiln Bayou Preserve State Park, Pensacola

Stretching 4,000 acres, this is the perfect place to enjoy the Tarkiln Bayou Trail that meanders to a scenic view of the Bayou. And you can take Fido with you! You might be able to spot white tailed deer, raccoon or bobcat along the dog-friendly trails. There are also benches and picnic tables around the park and along the trails to enjoy lunch with your pup.  But according to park regulations, pets must be on a maximum 6-foot, hand-held leash at all times, are not aggressive or destructive, and owners pick up after them. Also, Escambia County ordinances prohibit dogs from being on the beach areas of the park.
