@floricuas In the face of Florida’s war on abortion rights, growing economic insecurity, and the worsening climate crisis, Sabrina Bousbar, a Pinellas County Democrat running for Congress in November, has a simple message for Floridians: “Your vote is your voice. Vote!” And not just during presidential elections, the Gen Z advocate born in Florida to a Moroccan father and a Colombian mother told Floricua. “I tell everyone: ‘Do not just vote during presidential years, you need to vote during the midterms. You need to vote during the special elections. You need to vote during the municipal races.’” That is because Florida’s current problems, she says, are in part the result of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ and the Republican-majority state legislature’s rejection of federal funds from the Biden-Harris administration that could have been used to create affordable housing and expand Medicaid, among other programs to benefit Floridians. “What’s unfortunate with Ron DeSantis is that he didn’t want the Biden money, even though it was federal government money that was passed for the betterment of our state.” We need to make sure we elect “people who will work for,” not against, our best interests, said Bousbar. 🖊️: @gcbalido 📸: N/A
