The gubernatorial candidate shared on Tuesday that Morales had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and would undergo surgery.
Juan Dalmau, the gubernatorial candidate for the Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP) and the Alianza de País, has announced that he will temporarily pause his public appearances because his wife, Griselle Morales, has been hospitalized following a serious health issue.
On Tuesday morning, Dalmau shared that Morales had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and would undergo surgery later that day.
Dalmau stated that his immediate focus is on his wife and their two children, Gabriel and Sofía, expressing gratitude for the prayers, solidarity, and well-wishes from supporters and colleagues alike.
“My soul, heart, and attention are with my wife and my children. We place Griselle’s health in God’s hands. Thank you all for your support,” Dalmau said in an official statement.
Morales began feeling unwell at home while Dalmau was preparing for a gubernatorial debate scheduled for Tuesday. According to Calixto Negrón, Dalmau’s campaign director, Morales was immediately taken to the hospital by her husband. Although she did not lose consciousness or the ability to speak, her condition remains delicate, as it was confirmed that she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage.
Negrón added that further details regarding the severity of the hemorrhage and potential recovery will become clearer following the surgery. “We know it was an acute hemorrhage, but we are still waiting for more information after the surgery,” Negrón said during a radio interview.
Negrón, confirmed Tuesday afternoon Morales underwent surgery and the procedure was more invasive than initially expected due to the discovery of multiple aneurysms, one of which had caused bleeding. Doctors successfully managed the situation, and Morales is now recovering, with plans to move her to the intensive care unit for further monitoring.
Following the surgery, Negrón shared that both Dalmau and the medical team are satisfied with the results.
Dalmau has temporarily halted his campaign activities, including a press conference alongside US Representatives Nydia Velázquez and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The conference, which was intended to discuss the upcoming general elections, has been rescheduled for Wednesday. Negrón encouraged the public to continue offering their prayers for Morales’ recovery.
In light of this situation, the gubernatorial debate scheduled for Tuesday on the TeleOnce television network has been postponed too. The network expressed its support for Dalmau, thanking the other candidates for agreeing to the decision. A new date for the debate will be announced soon.
Political figures from various parties extended their support to Dalmau and his family. Jenniffer González, candidate for governor from the New Progressive Party (PNP), offered her best wishes for Morales’ recovery, emphasizing the importance of family and health over all else. Similarly, Jesús Manuel Ortiz from the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) and Javier Jiménez of Proyecto Dignidad both expressed solidarity and prayers for Morales’ health.
Ana Irma Rivera Lassén, running for Resident Commissioner on the Movimiento Victoria Ciudadana (MVC) ticket, praised Dalmau for prioritizing his family, stating, “The political path can wait. Today, health, family, and love come first.”
