Several Republican Senators have endorsed Scott ahead of Wednesday’s secret ballot election to appoint a new caucus leader.
As he runs to be his party’s new leader in the US Senate, Florida Sen. Rick Scott is promising to do what President-elect Donald Trump wants and make the Senate — a co-equal branch of government — an effective arm of the Trump administration rather than a potential check on his power.
“I represent exactly what the Trump team wants and what Trump wants,” Scott said during a “Fox & Friends” interview over the weekend.
Senate Republicans will pick their new leader via a secret ballot election on Wednesday, with Scott facing off against Texas Sen. John Cornyn and Sen. John Thune of South Dakota. The winner will replace Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who announced earlier this year that he will step down from his position in the new term. McConnell has led Senate Republicans since 2007.
Several Republican Senators have endorsed Scott, including Tennessee Senator Bill Hagerty, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson, Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville, and Florida Senator Marco Rubio.
“I think I am uniquely positioned to put forward Trump’s agenda,” Scott told MSNBC. “Number one, I believe in it. Number two I have a great relationship with him and with Mike Johnson and with all the leadership in the House.”

Trump’s agenda for a second term includes promises of implementing the largest deportation of immigrants in American history; sweeping new tariffs on imports, which financial experts say will increase prices for consumers; a freeze on climate-related regulations, remaking federal health agencies, and ideological changes in the education system. He has also expressed plans to use the Department of Justice (DOJ) to indict political opponents.
Despite Scott’s loyalty and support of Trump’s political agenda, the president-elect has yet to endorse Scott, nor revealed whether he plans to. Still, the Florida Republican is confident he will become the next administration’s Senate majority leader.
“I’ll be the next Majority Leader,” Scott – who claims he’s been texting back and forth with Trump – told Fox Business host Larry Kudlow last week. “And we’re going to get Trump’s agenda accomplished.”
