From classic to creative: 6 places to get coquito in Florida

Coquito has made its mark far beyond the island, thriving in communities wherever Puerto Ricans reside. 

While traditionally shared as a gift among family and friends, Puerto Ricans in Florida now have plenty of options to get their hands on this beloved holiday drink. That’s because local Boricuas around Florida are turning their cherished family recipes into small businesses, offering both classic coquito as well as inventive flavors through Instagram, online stores, and local markets.

Coquito Miami 305, Miami

Self-proclaimed as the “official” coquito of Miami, Coquito Miami 305, created by Jess Orta, adds a local twist to the traditional drink with flavors like guava pastry and café con leche, in addition to the classic coquito for $25. There are also vegan options for $35. Place your order online through their website or send a message to Coquito Miami 305 on Instagram. 

Coquito Roberto, Sarasota

Roberto Villanueva produces small-batch coquito for a limited time. A glass bottle of 750ml sells for $30, and 375ml for $20. You can order online and pickup in Sarasota near the SRQ Airport.

Madrina’s Coquito, Tampa

Madrina’s Coquito offers the Tampa Bay area what her website calls “Nuyorican Coquito.” Native New Yorker Elizabeth Perez (nicknamed “La Madrina” by close friends) uses a recipe that has been handed down through generations, without any fillers or strange ingredients, her site says. A 32 oz. bottle made with rum is available for $30, and a stronger version, made with rum 151 or cognac, for $35. Party sizes and other holidays drinks are also on her website. Delivery is available in Tampa year round.

Mr. Coquito by Frankie G., Miami

Looking for a strong coquito? Mr. Coquito by Frankie G’s Instagram page says its been making strong coquitos for nine years now. To get yours, simply send them a message on Instagram or Facebook.

Bocachulas Sweetz and Cocina Borinquen, Orlando

This dessert shop and food delivery service have teamed up to offer a coquito gift box for $30. The box includes a 5 oz personal bottle of coquito, with or without liquor, in traditional, Nutella, strawberry or cheesecake flavor, as well as chocolate-covered strawberries.

Koh-Kee-Toh, Coral Gables

This fun brand offers traditional, pumpkin spice, and Nutella flavors for pickup and delivery. Each 700ml bottle is $25. All you need to do is place your order on their website, and they will contact you to arrange payment and delivery. Orders over $50 get free shipping. Place your order online through their website or on Instagram.
