Decluttering your home can provide such a satisfying feeling of accomplishment. After sorting through all of your belongings and determining what stays and what goes, you’re probably wondering about donation locations. If you’re looking to give back to your community, there are plenty of local organizations that are eager to accept donations of clothes, shoes, and household items that support various communities in need. Here’s a list of 5 alternatives to Goodwill where your contributions will make a big impact in Florida.

1. Dress for Success – Multiple Locations

Dress for Success provides gently used professional attire to women across Florida who are hoping to achieve economic independence. The organization offers networking support, professional attire, and developmental tools to help women thrive at work. By donating your gently used women’s professional attire to Dress for Success, you’re helping women in their search for financial independence and autonomy.

2. Mustard Seed of Central Florida – Eatonville

The Mustard Seed of Central Florida focuses on helping families rebuild after tragedy or disaster. They provide household items and clothing to these individuals, so if you choose to donate to this organization, you can help them in their cause of serving at least 30 families a week. You can learn more about their donation needs here, but if you have furniture that you’re looking to part with, the Mustard Seed sponsors a variety of pop-up events where furniture is the focal point.

3. Sunshine Thrift Store – Multiple Locations

The proceeds from Sunshine Thrift Store goes towards helping local charities with their fundraising efforts. You can donate your gently used clothing, household items, furniture, shoes, and more to one of the three Sunshine Thrift locations.

4. The HOPE Chest Thrift Store – Oviedo

The HOPE Chest Thrift Store donates proceeds from their store back into the community by partnering with agencies and other non-profits across Central Florida. They specifically need clothing, shoes, household items, and infant items, but you can learn more about their donation list here.

5. Out of the Closet – Multiple Locations

Out of the Closet Thrift Stores benefits the AIDS Healthcare Foundation which offers HIV Testing and other related care and services.
