@floricuas The Harris-Walz campaign is meeting Latinos where they are: on WhatsApp. The new WhatsApp channel, Latinos con Harris Walz, is bilingual and will provide users with a behind-the-scenes look at the campaign and the latest news about the Harris-Walz platform. “After so many years of Latinos being so misunderstood, this feels like we’re finally being seen — like they finally understood our power and are going out of their way to bring us into the fold by meeting us where we’re at,” Evelyn Lees, a Puerto Rican teacher from New Jersey, told The Washington Post. According to Pew Research Center, 54% of Hispanic adults in the US use WhatsApp, and this November Latinos are expected to comprise 14.75 of all eligible voters. That means the Latino voting bloc could be decisive in swing states. While this might be the first time a US presidential campaign has used WhatsApp, Americans are a little late to the game. The messaging app has long played a key role in political races around the globe, including in India, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Mexico, and Venezuela. What started as an app focused on small group chats and one-to-one messaging, is now more like a social media platform, where users can congregate in massive channels, and interact with large communities.
