“Donald Trump incited today’s violent attack on our democracy,” reads the letter signed by dozens of group leaders.
After yesterday’s raid on Capitol Hill by domestic terrorists, several leaders of Black and Latino organizations are calling for the immediate removal and impeachment of President Donald Trump.
So far, almost 20 organizations have signed a letter that calls for Trump to be impeached and removed from office. They also said that Congress members who supported Trump and called to overthrow the election should be prosecuted and held accountable for being complicit.

“Donald Trump incited today’s violent attack on our democracy,” the letter states. “Every moment that he remains in office is a severe danger to our country. Congress must respond decisively and immediately.”
They added, “All members of Congress who joined Trump in inciting today’s violent coup attempt based on baseless, provable lies must be held accountable through censure, expulsion or other means.”
Some of the organizations that signed the letter include RAICES, Diaspora Rising, Faith for Black Lives, Presente.org, Progressive Democrats of America, and others.
On Jan. 7, as rioters made their way into the House of Congress and into their chambers, Trump released a video in which he continued to issue false claims about the election, said that the fight would continue, and later, on Twitter, said that he loved them. His Twitter account has since been suspended.
“Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th,” Trump said in a statement posted to Twitter. “While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!”
Several Democratic lawmakers, including at least one Republican representative so far, have called to invoke the 25th Amendment, which would mean Trump would be removed from office.

The 25th Amendment calls for the removal of the president when they are too sick or otherwise incapacitated to lead the country. It can be implemented by the president or by other officials. The result is the vice president becoming acting president.
