Rep. Anna Eskamani offers these ideas to spread kindness and support the local community.
Lo ideal es que cada día tengamos algún gesto de amabilidad con otra persona, sin embargo, a veces nos sumimos en la rutina diaria y pasamos inadvertidas las oportunidades para hacerlo.
Now is your chance! Random Acts of Kindness Week, February 13-19, marks the Random Acts of Kindness Day, which is February 17. The day was created in 2004 in New Zealand to encourage people to be kind with simple gestures. Every year the celebration gains momentum, as more groups join in.
This year Florida Rep. Anna Eskamani created a list with ideas for residents of the Orlando area to have an impact on their community.
Random Acts of Kindness for Orlando Residents:
- Volunteer at the United Against Poverty food pantry, where you can clean, organize, or take inventory in the Emergency Food Pantry.
- Shop at or donate to Out of the Closet Thrift Stores, where 96 cents of every dollar goes to HIV care and services.
- Collect old used blankets, towels, and sheets and drop them off at a local animal shelter. At Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando there’s a chance you can become a Bark Buddy, Kitty Cuddler, or a Community Engager. There are ways you can help animals in need!
- Tip a barista at a local coffee shop. Many Puerto Ricans are cafeteros so this is an easy way to support your community.
- Contact Keep Orlando Beautiful to participate in community cleanups and park beautifications.
- Support the LGBTQ+ community by volunteering to work at the front desk for The Center, a non-profit organization aimed at informing, educating, advocating, and supporting your fellow neighbors.
