The Gainesville Regional Airport is also part of the investment from Biden’s infrastructure plan that will award nearly $1 billion to improve 85 airports nationwide.
Two Florida airports are among 85 across the country that were chosen by the US Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to modernize terminals.
The FAA will award nearly $1 billion from President Joe Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to improve these 85 airports.

In Florida, the Orlando International Airport will receive $50 million to expand the capacity of four terminals.
The grants will also be used to increase energy efficiency, promote competition, and provide greater accessibility for individuals with disabilities.
“Americans deserve modern airports that meet the needs of their families and growing passenger demand. Funded through President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, today’s grants will improve airport terminals while also creating good jobs in communities across the country,” said US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
The expansion of the Orlando International Airport will include constructing four gates capable of serving either four wide-body or eight narrow-body aircrafts.
The other Florida airport is the Gainesville Regional Airport, which will receive $1.67 million to improve a multi-modal ground transport facility.

The project will include lighted, accessible, covered walkways to the commercial airline terminal, a covered passenger waiting area, accessible restrooms, and queuing lanes for taxis, and city buses arriving to and departing from the terminal.
“Through the Infrastructure Law, the airport will receive $50M to expand Terminal C, which will increase capacity and generate 400 construction jobs, 500 permanent airport jobs, and an estimated 2,000 regional jobs. Our hard work paying off!” Rep. Darren Soto (D-9) wrote about the initiative on Twitter.
Biden’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act represent a historic investment in the US infrastructure that will rebuild the country’s roads, bridges, and rails, upgrade and expand public transit, modernize the ports and airports, improve safety, and tackle the climate crisis.
