Need Help with Housing, Rent, or Food? Here’s How You Can Find Resources in Your Area

Whether you need help paying rent or food, or if you are a senior in need of transportation or in-home care help, there are programs that can help with these, among other necessities.

That special time of the year is coming once more, and with Christmas comes winter as well. In some areas, the cold weather can be inclement, making it even more urgent for people without stable housing to find a place to stay. 

Additionally, in Florida, with rent prices soaring, some may also need help with rent or other basic necessities. such as food or clothing. 

Help is Available

Luckily, people can use the Find Shelter tool from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Along with temporary housing, they can also find help for other matters, such as:

  • Paying rent 
  • Applying for a Housing Choice Voucher 
  • Reporting housing discrimination
  • Talking to a housing counselor

And that is not all. They can also find:

  • Local food pantries
  • Health clinics
  • Discounted or free clothing.

Help for Seniors

The Eldercare Locator, a public service of the U.S. Administration on Aging, connecting provides an instant connection to support that enables seniors to live independently in their communities, as well as provides help for caregivers. 

You can use the tool to find resources like:

  • Transportation available in your area.
  • Programs that can assist with modifying your home.
  • In-home care help.
