@floricuas Florida’s 6-week abortion ban is “a human tragedy,” Dr. Cecilia Grande, a Puerto Rican OB/GYN in Miami, told Floricua. The ban went into effect May 1 and made Florida one of 17 states where abortion is completely banned or illegal after six weeks. “A six week ban is seen by people who are not in medicine as people who just want to have an elective abortion,” said Dr. Grande. “In the eyes of an OB/GYN it is different, because the rate of miscarriage in people who want a pregnancy, if you’re under 35, is 30%.” She added that dating pregnancies is very difficult, because a lot of women have irregular periods. “A six week ban in reality is like a total ban in Florida.” Reproductive rights advocates say the ban will impact mainly low-income women, including women of color, who don’t have the financial means to travel out of state to get the care they need. 🖊️: @gcbalido 📸: N/A
