If you like piña coladas, try them at these 5 Florida restaurants and bars

The piña colada might be from Puerto Rico, but this quintessential tropical drink is loved around the world. Who can resist its creamy blend of coconut, pineapple, and rum?

And that’s why the drink is a mainstay on cocktail menus, especially in sunny Florida, where it’s served at casual beachside restaurants, tiki revival bars, and fancy craft cocktail establishments.

Here are five places in Florida that serve up a darn good piña colada.

Sweet Liberty, Miami Beach

Located in the Collins Park area next to Bass Art Museum, this neighborhood spot serves American food and award-winning cocktails. Its piña colada is made with a three-rum blend (coconut rum, white rum, and dark rum), pineapple juice, coconut cream, coffee beans, and topped with a Pedro Ximenez sherry float.

R House, Miami

If you want to splurge, ask for La Piña Loca at this funky restaurant and bar in Wynwood. For $100, you’ll get the cocktail served in a whole pineapple with sparklers, flamingo straws, tiki umbrellas, and five shots of your choice. This cocktail is just for those “in the know,” so you won’t see it on the menu. And it’s ideal for sharing so bring a friend or two! You can pre-order this special drink on R House’s menu before arriving.

Trophy Fish, St. Pete

Trophy Fish brings “bait shop chic” to downtown St. Pete with beach umbrellas, whimsical beachy decor, and tiki torches. The restaurant and craft cocktail bar, which also has a location in Tampa, serves locally caught fresh fish from the Gulf of Mexico and one impressive piña colada! Aptly called “If You Like Piña Colada,” the drink is served in a whole pineapple hull, and includes Appleton Reserve tangerine, vanilla sea salt coconut cream, caramelized pineapple, and garam masala.

Tipsy Rooster, Key West

This liquor store, bar, and live music venue is a local favorite. One of the drinks that reviewers online rave about is its hand-shaken Classic Piña Colada, made with strawberry- and pineapple-infused rum, key lime rum cream, coconut cream, and pineapple juice. As the name suggests, roosters roam the outdoor bar area.

Sandbar, Clearwater Beach

You can’t beat the view at this tiki bar at the Opal Sands Resort, overlooking the white sands and turquoise waters of the Gulf. The menu includes light fare and a wide selection of craft cocktails, including the Killer Colada, made bacardi superior rum, cream of coconut, fresh pineapple and pineapple juice, and topped with bacardi.
