@floricuas Charlie Rodríguez, president of the Democratic Party in Puerto Rico, urges Puerto Ricans living in the mainland to elect presidential candidates who support laws that affect their daily lives. That is why he believes they should analyze the values of the Democratic Party. “The Democratic Party has always been the party of equality, civil rights, and political rights. Where every man and every woman should have the right to choose those who approve laws that affect their daily lives. Puerto Rico is subject to all laws passed by Congress, but we do not have voting representation in either legislative federal bodies,” Rodríguez told Floricuas. Last week, the 60 full delegates and 5 Puerto Rican Democratic alternates participating in the National Democratic Convention (NDC) from August 19 to 22 in Chicago, decided to unanimously support Harris. Rodríguez said that Joe Biden is the US president who has allocated the most money for Puerto Rico and given parity in important federal programs such as the Child Tax Credit, the American Rescue Plan (ARP), and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). He believes that with the candidacy of Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party will gain momentum that will “be able to stop Donald Trump from reaching the White House.” “This is about a man who is a convicted criminal. Who in a civil case was found to have sexually assaulted a woman. Who in an administrative case was fined up to $400 million for violations of laws and regulations,” Rodríguez said. On the contrary, Rodríguez points out the obstacles that former President Donald Trump has placed in Puerto Rico’s way, mainly when he conditioned millions of dollars in funds for reconstruction after Hurricane Maria in 2017.
