Gov. Pierluisi announced the allocation of funds for 30 towns that are still dealing with the economic impact of the pandemic.
Gov. Pedro Pierluisi has allocated $17.6 million from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES) to 30 municipalities in Puerto Rico.
The CARES Act was established to help state and local governments with the impact of the pandemic.
The funds will be distributed according to the needs of each municipality. Some will be used to continue the COVID-19 testing program, purchase disinfectant products, protective equipment, and materials, as well as for screening and isolation programs for people infected with COVID-19.
Those industries most affected by the pandemic, such as health care, tourism, small- and medium-sized businesses, and self-employed workers, will also be able to receive funds.
Among the municipalities that will receive aid are Adjuntas, Arecibo, Bayamón, Caguas, Canovanas, Carolina, Cataño, Fajardo, Florida, Guayama, Las Piedras, Manatí, Orocovis, Ponce, Río Grande, San Juan, Utuado, and Vieques.
