A six-week abortion ban is set to take effect in Florida today Wednesday, May 1st. This comes 30 days after the Florida Supreme Court issued a ruling upholding Gov. Ron DeSantis 15-week abortion ban. Pro-choice advocates are effectively calling the new measure a total abortion ban, since most women don’t know they are pregnant at that time. Ysabella Osses, the director of advocacy at Florida Access Network–an abortion fund that has been committed to the pursuit of reproductive freedom since 1996–spoke with Floricua about those who will be most impacted by the new abortion restrictions in the Sunshine State. She also spoke on the need to vote in November to help pass Amendment 4, a measure that would protect abortion rights in Florida until “viability” (which is usually around 24 weeks). “I believe that each one of us should be free to live our lives with dignity and to make the best decisions for our lives,” Osses said. “The decisions should be between us and our health care provider.” 🖊️: @gcbalido 📸: N/A
