JD Vance, Donald Trump’s running mate, has made several comments that have further highlighted the GOP’s problems in appealing to female voters and issues such as reproductive rights.

Comments made by JD Vance in 2021, where he questioned Vice President Kamala Harris’ leadership for not having biological children, have resurfaced. These remarks are challenging the young conservative senator as he begins his campaign on the Republican presidential ticket.

During Vance’s bid for the Senate in Ohio, he said in a Fox News interview that “we are effectively run in this country via the Democrats,” and referred to them as “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.”

His expressions were against Harris, US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and US Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a New York Democrat of Puerto Rican descent.

Harris became stepmother to two teenagers when she married entertainment lawyer Douglas Emhoff in 2014. And Buttigieg announced he and his husband adopted infant twins in September 2021.

Vance is now Donald Trump’s running mate. His comments have further highlighted the GOP’s problems in appealing to female voters and issues such as reproductive rights.

The Harris campaign replied to Vance’s stance, saying that “every single American has a stake in this country’s future.”

Rep. Anna Eskamani, member of Florida House of Representatives from the 42nd district in Orange County, agrees with Harris’ position.

“As a childless cat lady, I want to send a clear message to JD Vance but not only are we just as valued as anyone else in American society, but the trope that we are worthless and that we should be charged more to live in society and that our voices countless is an age long trope with a very long tail,“ Rep. Eskamani told Floricuas.

The Florida representative pointed out that women without children have been dealing with these stereotypes for a very long time, and reiterated that each person has a stake in the country’s future, regardless of whether or not they have children.

“When we all do better, we all do better when we invest in public education everywhere, thrives when we ensure that people have access to health care and a good cost of living, everyone thrives,” Rep. Eskamani said.

The representative encourages people not to “allow extremists to dictate our futures.”

“They’re grossly out of touch and it’s really important for us to call it out and of course, celebrate every type of family, whether you have children or not. You are special, you matter, and you definitely need to vote,” Rep Eskamani concluded.
