The program is intended to help offset the high cost of property insurance by offering matching grants of up to $10,000 to Florida homeowners to shore up their homes with storm-protective upgrades.
The application period for the My Safe Florida Home Program, which provides homeowners with grants to hurricane-proof their homes, reopened on July 1.
The program is intended to help offset the high cost of property insurance by offering matching grants of up to $10,000 to Florida homeowners to shore up their homes with storm-protective upgrades such as hurricane-safe doors or windows. These upgrades can help them save on home insurance premiums.
First-time applicants must complete an initial wind-mitigation inspection to proceed to the grant application.
Applicants that do not receive a grant can use their inspection as a roadmap to making home improvements that will strengthen it against hurricanes. They can also share the report with their insurance carrier to make sure they’re receiving all possible discounts on the hurricane portion of their home insurance premium.
My Safe Florida Home was established in 2006 and brought back in 2022. The program ran out of money in 2023, leaving many applicants in limbo.

This is how the state is rolling out the My Safe Florida Home Program this year.
July 1-15
Grant Group 1 – Low-income homeowners age 60+
July 16-30
Grant Group 2 – Low-income homeowners
July 31-Aug. 14
Grant Group 3 – Moderate-income homeowners age 60+
Aug. 15-30
Grant Group 4 – Moderate-income homeowners
Aug. 3
Grant Group 5 – All other eligible
